Uni Games 2007

April 16, 2007

OURC had a very successful NZ University Rowing Championships once again this year. In the senior eights races, held on the Waimakariri River, the Senior Men rowed exceptionally well to retain the Hebberley Shield for a record equalling sixth consecutive year. The second Senior Mens’ crew also rowed well to finish the race fourth behind Canterbury and Victoria. The Senior Women’s squad also showed their dominance with the three Otago crews finishing first, second and third in the Tamiki Cup. It is thought that this is the first time the same university has achieved such a result in the Senior Eights.

The remaining races were held on Lake Hood, Ashburton, over two days with heats being followed by finals on the second day. Otago continued its dominance in all the grades. The women’s crews were particularly strong, amassing 129 competition points, ahead of Victoria on 14 points.

Otago comfortably retained the Ashes as the winning club overall with 185 points, ahead of Victoria on 57 points.
