Uni Rowing Champs
May 2, 2008
Otago has once again come out on top at the NZ University Rowing Champs. On the 19th of April in perfect conditions at Lake Karapiro Otago crews dominated the field. Otago retained the Ashes (overall points trophy) for the 9th year in a row trouncing all other participants with a whopping 160 points. The nearest competition was only able to muster a comparatively tiny 40 points.
Otago retained both championship 8s titles in style. The women defeating a sharp crew from AUT and the men holding off strong crews from Waikato and Canterbury, despite the Waikato crew containing former NZ elites. Both crews ended up winning convincingly with clear water back to second.
This win means Otago have now won the Hebberley shield for 7 consecutive years - setting a new record!
Congratulations to all Otago team members on a job well done. Special thanks to Glen, Sonya and all the coaches for a fantastic job organising the team.
