TRIAL INFORMATION FOR OURC 2017
SENIOR/INTERMEDIATE TRIALISTS
• The first meeting for Seniors and Intermediates will be at the Clubrooms on Saturday 25th February 8am
• Competing in the NZ Universities Rowing Championships is only for people who are doing a minimum of one paper at the University of Otago and with an Otago Uni Student ID. You must be available to train mornings from 6am -7:30am sharp (you will make your 8am) – Week days and weekends - Only 7 weeks of training. And you must obviously be available to race on the Friday 14th Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of April in Ashburton. (This is Easter Weekend and you have the mid semester break off after this. This is not for casual/social rowers. – We will offer social rowing from May onwards.

• Meeting -Where? OUSA Aquatic Centre at 65 Magnet St – map on website – www.ourc.org.nz

• All athletes are encouraged to do a 2km erg race to help with their selection, These will be supervised the week starting Monday 27th Feb.

• Costs: 1st Semester Club subs $250 inc gst, Subs to be paid by Friday 10th March. This is to be paid at the Club. Money in an envelope with your name and crew written on it. Cheques to be made payable to: Otago University Rowing. You may be replaced after this date if you have not paid. Singlets $30, Rowsuits $105, Caps $25. University Rowing Champs Entry Fee $55. Accomm in Asburton for 3 nights is $120 – Travel at own cost by shared Private car. Second semester costs $250 – or you can pay both semesters $450 before the 10th March. If you have issues around costs please talk to us – don’t just ignore them.

• Uni Champs dates and Holidays – the Uni Champs this year are on Easter Weekend – 14,15,16th April – NZU trials 17th. The Championship Eights are raced over 3.2km and will be raced on the Waimakariri River just north of Christchurch on the Friday 14th. Crews racing these will need to be at the river by 11am that day. Holidays - You will be able to go home for your mid semester break from Monday 17th April.

• International Events – The club will be sending Senior and Development Eights to events in China throughout the year. We will have more details in mid march. Normal cost is between $2-3,000:00 how ever this can be reduced with a grant from the Vice Chancellors Fund and OUSA Special Grants Fund – by around $1,200:00 as long as your academic record shows you have not failed any papers.

SOCIAL GATHERINGS
• The first function will be Crate Day on Saturday the 4th March starting at 2pm. Venue to be confirmed. The Crawl 18th March, Singlet Night Thursday 6th April.

COLLEGE EIGHTS – This event will be held on Sunday 12th March – Every College has a crew – 4 males and 4 females – this is a fantastic event and is proudly run by the club committee.
Otago vs Canterbury Boatrace 13th May – Twizel.

NOVICE & TOURNAMENT TRIALISTS
• The first meeting for Novice and Tournament trialists will be at the Clubrooms on Saturday 25th February at 9am. Next training is Monday 27th from 6am - 7:30am
• Competing in the NZ Universities Rowing Championships is only for people who are doing a minimum of one paper at the University of Otago and with an Otago Uni Student ID. You must be available to train mornings from 6am -7:30am sharp (you will make your 8am) – Week days and weekends - Only 7 weeks of training. And you must obviously be available to race on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of April in Ashburton. (This is Easter Weekend and you have the mid semester break off after this. This is not for casual/social rowers. – We will offer social rowing from May onwards.

• We aim to have two Novice Men’s and two Novice Women’s crews compete at the NZ Universities Rowing Championships.

• Where? OUSA Aquatic Centre at 65 Magnet St (see map on website www.ourc.org.nz)

• What do I wear? Long socks, polyprop top, bike pants or tight fitting shorts (not board shorts or rugby shorts), spare clothes, a hat, sunglasses, Jandals/scuffs or something similar (that you can wear into the water).

• When? You must be available to train 4 weekday mornings 6-7:30am and Saturday morning at 7am – 11am - commitment for 7 weeks will have its just rewards.
