2016 University Rowing Season

The 2016 University Rowing Season is about to kick off. Otago University Rowing starts this saturday 27th Feb for the Seniors and Intermediates with a club row and breakfast upstairs.

Beginners and Novices have there first meeting at 4pm on Sunday 28th Feb - first training session is Monday 29th at 6am.

TRIAL INFORMATION FOR OURC 2016
SENIOR/INTERMEDIATE TRIALISTS
• The first meeting for Seniors and Intermediates will be at the Clubrooms on Saturday 27th February 9am

• Competing in the NZ Universities Rowing Championships is only for people who are doing a minimum of one paper at the University of Otago and with a Student ID. You must be available to train mornings from 6am -7:30am sharp (you will make your 8am) – Mon – Thursday and Saturdays from 7am – 11am - Only 7 weeks of training. And you must obviously be available to race on the Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of April in Twizel. (This is Anzac Weekend and you also get the Monday off) You will still get Easter and Mid Semester off in March. This is not for casual/social rowers. – We will offer social rowing from May onwards.

• Meeting -Where? OUSA Aquatic Centre at the end of Magnet St – map on website – www.ourc.org.nz

• If you wish to trial for Senior and Intermediate No 1 Crews, you must do a 2000m erg race; These will
be supervised on Monday 29th Feb - Wednesday 2nd March from 4pm – 7pm. RPC athletes may submit this years supervised 2km score. For everyone else past erg scores will not be accepted - you will not be considered for a No 1 crew without doing an erg

• All athletes are encouraged to do a 2km erg race to help with their selection.

• Costs: 1st Semester Club subs $250 inc gst, Subs to be paid by Friday 11th March. This is to be paid at the Club. Money in an envelope with your name and crew written on it. Cheques to be made payable to: Otago University Rowing. You may be replaced after this date if you have not paid. Singlets $30, Rowsuits $105, Caps $25. University Rowing Champs Entry Fee $55. Accomm in Wanganui for 3 nights is $120 – Travel at own cost by shared Private car. Second semester costs $250 – or you can pay both semesters $450 before the 11th March.

• Uni Champs dates and Holidays – the Uni Champs this year are on Anzac weekend – 23/24th April – spare day and NZU trials 25th.You need to be in Twizel by 10am on Friday 22nd and you will depart before midday on Monday 25th. Holidays - You will be able to go home for your Easter and mid semester break – how ever we require you back for training on the Saturday 2nd April.

SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
• The first function will be Crate Day on Saturday the 5th March starting at 2pm. Venue to be confirmed. Pub Crawl 19th March, Singlet Night Thursday 14th April.

• What do I wear? Long socks, polyprop top, bike pants or tight fitting shorts (not board shorts or rugby shorts), spare clothes, a hat, sunglasses, Jandals/scuffs or something similar (that you can wear into the water).

• When? You must be available to train 4 weekday mornings 6-7:30am and Saturday morning at 7am – 10am - commitment for 7 weeks will have its just rewards.
